Helpful Tip from the Garden Geeks:  What is Leaf Mold?

Leaf mold is compost made solely from the leaves of deciduous trees and shrubs. It's a wonderful mulch and as compost it not only improves soil structure but provides valuable nutrients as well.

It composts more slowly in a compost pile than most other types of organic matter, but shredding the leaves or mixing them with grass clippings will help speed it up.  Make sure the leaves are kept damp, but not soggy, and add a bit of soil to provide microorganisms.
