Helpful Tip from the Garden Geeks: Compost Vs Manure-how do They Compare?
There is very little difference between well-made compost and well-rotted animal manure. Both contain about 0.5% of the major plant nutrients: nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium, as well as many important trace elements.
In most gardens, the amount of compost that can be made each season, is inadequate for all purposes. If you are using compost to amend the soil in a large area for example, some supplements may be needed in the form of animal manure or other fertilizer.
