Helpful Tip from the Garden Geeks:  How to dry sunflower heads. When the backs of sunflowers turn yellowish brown and the petals fall off, collect the flower heads in a cloth or paper bag. Keep them in a warm, dry place until the heads are shriveled. Remove the seeds and spread them on an old screen door, or other mesh surface, where air can circulate to them and help them finish drying.
