Helpful Tip from the Garden Geeks: Hot weather breeds hot peppers. To grow the hottest chilies, plant in the sunniest spot in your garden and harvest during the warmest weeks of summer. Keep in mind that Southern gardeners should provide partial shade against the intense afternoon rays that may burn the pod. Northern gardeners should start chilies inside in pots to provide the long season required to ripen the fruits.
