Helpful Tip from the Garden Geeks: Protect cucumbers with radishes. Cucumber beetles, both striped and spotted, feed on tender seedlings, foliage, and roots of Cucurbit crops - cucumbers, melons, and squash. Probably the worst thing they do is carry bacterial wilt from plant to plant. Adults over winter under plant debris and become active when the weather warms up. Cucumber beetles don't like radishes, so put a couple of radish seeds in each Cucurbit hill at planting time. Great Companions!
