Helpful tip from The Garden Geeks: Remember that tilling is best done in the fall. If you plan on tilling a new bed, do in autumn because in the spring, the ground can be too wet to dig, and you just compact it even more. Tilling in the fall will save you work. The freezing and thawing of winter will work any large clumps loose, leaving you with soft, fluffy earth in the spring.
