Helpful tip from The Garden Geeks: Watering tricks. Watering plants at night encourages foliar disease. Water in early morning because it gives the soil a better chance to soak up the moisture before it evaporates in the afternoon sun. Remember, it's better to water plants, trees and lawns for 30 minutes twice a week then watering 10 minutes everyday. The more deeply a plant is watered, the deeper the water penetrates the soil, encouraging roots to grow deeper and ultimately allowing the plant to survive on less water. Young plants have smaller roots and should be watered lightly and more frequently.
