Helpful tip from The Garden Geeks: Some Tips for planting Garlic. Plant bulbs in fall (best time is late Sept to mid October depending on your freeze dates) so plants can establish good roots that will withstand heaving. Plant only the biggest cloves in full sun and well drained soil. Rotate plantings every 2 years. Great companion plants. Garlic is said to enhance the growth of fruit trees, strawberries, tomatoes, cabbage, and rose. Do not plant near peas, beans, and asparagus. Some believe knotting stems helps the stems to dry out faster and is said to make the clove more potent.
