Helpful tip from The Garden Geeks: Want to stop buying Geraniums year after year? Over winter them! Here's how...at the end of summer, gently remove all of the dirt from the roots and then hang the entire geranium (roots, leaves and flowers) upside sown in a damp location that stays between 40 and 50 degrees all winter (a cellar works well). Even though they will look dead-don't water. In the spring, plant them, remove foliage and flowers and water well. Soon you will see the new growth.
