Helpful tip from The Garden Geeks:  Did you know that plants don't grow well when planted in a metal container that is in direct sun? Before filling a metal container with soil, insert some insulation (a sheet of Styrofoam works great for window boxes) on the side exposed to direct sun, or place a smaller container into the larger one and pack the space between the two with peat moss. Keeping the soil cool will promote more vigorous growth.
