Helpful tip from The Garden Geeks: Did you know roses love banana peels? Cut up banana peels and mix them in the soil at planting time. They rot quickly, releasing minerals roses need - calcium, sulfur, magnesium, and phosphates. You can also make a banana peel tonic for use after the plants are established. Just soak chopped pieces in a closed jar of water for 2 weeks. Pour the remaining mush under the rose bush. If that's too much trouble, chop the peels and scratch them into the soil below the plant.
