The Garden Geeks helpful garden tip: Did you know you can kill powdery mildew with just a few household items? Mix one teaspoon baking soda, one quarter teaspoon of Murphy's Oil Soap, and a quart of water. Fill trigger spray bottle with the solution and spray on plants as soon as you see any signs of powdery mildew. Spray once a week until the daytime temps exceed 70ºF. Be sure to test the spray on one leaf first and wait one day to make certain it doesn't harm the leaf. Always best to spray plants on over cast days. The USDA approved baking soda as a fungicide. It changes the pH of the leaves inhibiting any fungi growth.
